At this point there is no cure, vaccine, “antiviral,” or other proven medication that treats COVID-19 Corona Virus. And, like it or not, society will almost certainly be “opening up” prior to the point of widespread effective treatment.
This blog is NOT intended to be medical advice. In fact, it’s based on steps that I am personally taking (and recommendations that I am making to family, friends, and patients) in absence of, or as an adjunct to proper medical care.
While there is still so much to learn about this virus, experts seem to have a pretty good handle now on how it’s spread, general symptomatology, and those affected most severely. So instead of focusing on unproven cures or treatments for the specific COVID-19 virus (let’s let those experts handle that), I’m focusing on these general areas instead:
- Prevention
- Building Physical and Mental Resilience
- Possibly Slowing or Stopping the Progression of Viral Pathogenesis
- Easing of Physical Symptoms
- Mitigating Risk Factors (Pre Existing and any others)
- Recovery
I don’t know if any of the precautions I’m taking and talking about in this blog will lessen the chances of myself (or others) from contracting the virus or lead to a more positive outcome if we did get it. Most everything is “educated speculation” based on my synthesis of modern research, the vast tradition of Chinese Medicine, and anecdotal evidence from clinicians directly working with COVID patients. And, I purposely only focus on areas that have almost no risk or side effects, are not financially burdensome, and can be implemented with relative ease.
SO TO BE VERY CLEAR – the posts in this blog do not claim to prevent or cure COVID-19 specifically. However, I do believe in these uncertain times that it’s really important to increase our self-care efforts for both our physical and mental health. This increase in personal agency can lead to greater sense of control and hopefully a little less fear and stress!
Remember THE BEST WAY to prevent contracting the COVID-19 virus is to limit exposure: self-quarantine, going out only for essentials, social distancing, proper mask wearing, and thorough hand washing or sanitizing!!!!

Thanks, Doug. Always good to hear your wisdom and gather more good. Thinking of you and hoping all is well in Barra and with you both, Doug and Alison.
Thanks! Good to hear from you. All is good in Barra with us. Hope you are doing well also. Miss you!
Thanks for this. Can we sign up for postings ? Or do we need to check back periodically?
Hey Tia, right now I’ll just let people know of new posts on social media. Soon I should have the sign-up for post updates – once I can figure that out 🙂
I am taking n-acetyl-cysteine as well as 5000 iu of Vitamin D.
Nice! You are ahead of the game. Hopefully more will follow suit.
chido..
Hey thanks Doug! I always appreciate you sharing your wisdom.
Thanks, Doug. This is a grand idea. Can we get NAC here?
Pharmacies here sell NAC in a 600mg effervescent tablet called Lysomusil. I got a box at Dr. Linda’s. It’s not quite as cheap as up north. I also ordered a bottle from iherb. It’s supposed to arrive sometime this month – we’ll see.
Building a healthy immune system is certainly key. But at some point that may mean not quite so much handwashing? We do need our protective bacteria, too. Or protecting our kids so much? Certainly isolating the immune challenged, age challenged, and already ill folks seems to make the most sense going forward?
Thanks Doug.
